İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasında Avrupa ülkelerinin demografik yapısı savaş öncesine nispetle heterojen bir yapıya dönüşmüştür. Burada savaşı müteakip ortaya çıkan mülteci/göçmen akınlarının yanı sıra özellikle 1950’lerin sonlarından itibaren beliren işgücü açığı da etkili olmuştur. Bu bakımdan zaman içerisinde birçok Avrupa ülkesi yabancı işçi göçü olgusuyla karşılaşmıştır. Bu ülkelerden biri olan Avusturya da 1960’lardan itibaren toplam nüfusuna oranla yüksek yabancı işçi ve tabiatıyla yabancı/yabancı kökenli nüfus barındıran bir göç ülkesi olarak dikkat çekmektedir. Bu gerçekten hareketle de yapılan bu çalışmanın amacı bir göç ülkesi olan Avusturya’nın işgücü piyasasında yer alan yabancıların mevcut durumlarını ve sorun alanlarını tespit etmek olarak belirlenmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen araştırma neticesinde de aradan geçen yarım asırdan fazla süreye rağmen Avusturya işgücü piyasasındaki yabancılara dair yaşanan sorunlarda hem Avusturyalılar hem de yabancılardan kaynaklanan hususların olduğu görülmüştür. Dolayısıyla olumsuz durumların halledilmesi noktasında iki taraflı bir çözüm arzusu ve iradesi olmalıdır; hem Avusturya devleti ve onun idarecilerinin hem de bizatihi yabancıların çaba göstermeleri gerekmektedir. Ayrıca başta işverenler ve sendikalar olmak üzere toplumun farklı gruplarının ve özellikle de sivil toplum örgütlerinin inisiyatif alarak rol üstlenmeleri gerekmektedir.
