This paper investigated the influence of entrepreneurial competency and financial literacy on sustainable small enterprise performance. We simultaneously investigated the mediating role of entrepreneurial resilience on the association between competence and financial literacy with sustainable business performance. We used a quantitative method for collecting data from 220 small business entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia using an online questionnaire. The collected data were analysed with the help of PLS-SEM. The results reveal that financial literacy significantly positively affects entrepreneurial competency and resilience. Entrepreneurial competency has a significant positive effect on Saudi SMEs’ entrepreneurial resilience and sustainable performance. Finally, entrepreneurial resilience was simultaneously found to have a considerable impact on sustainable performance while mediating the effect of financial literacy and competency on sustainable performance across Saudi SMEs. In line with Saudi Vision 2030, with its profound focus on entrepreneurship and developing a financially independent entrepreneurial community, this research contributes to creating economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs managing small enterprises. Apart from extending the body of knowledge, this research can support policymakers in formulating relevant strategies to encourage SMEs that have been worst hit by the COVID-19 pandemic to perform sustainably. Several other implications for financial institutions and entrepreneurs have also been drawn.
This study examined the influence of lecturers’ creativity on the entrepreneurial intention of technical college students in Saudi Arabia, applying the theory of planned behaviour (TPB). The study employed a questionnaire, which was completed by 99 technical college students in the study area. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to perform the data analysis and to test the hypotheses. The study’s findings revealed that attitude towards behaviour and perceived behavioural control predicted entrepreneurial intention. They also partially mediated the relationship between lecturers’ creativity and entrepreneurial intention. Finally, entrepreneurial intention was not influenced by subjective norms. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the significance of lecturers’ creativity in developing entrepreneurial intention by applying the TPB among technical college students. The results could assist stakeholders, such as technical colleges, universities, policymakers and other parties, in establishing a more creative entrepreneurial environment. The study findings further emphasize the need to support creative lecturers capable of improving students’ essential entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, values and competencies. The study was limited to only one technical college in Saudi Arabia with a limited sample size, making it challenging to generalize the results. Future research could investigate individuals’ exact skills and knowledge, supporting and attracting them to enrol in technical college and pursue entrepreneurial business activities.
This study examined the impact of selected personality traits—innovativeness, internal locus of control, need for achievement and propensity to take risks—on the entrepreneurial intention of Saudi students (young entrepreneurs). The study sample included 165 students from an applied college affiliated with King Faisal University. The participants completed an online self-administered questionnaire, the data from which were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method. The findings revealed that the characteristics of innovativeness, internal locus of control and propensity to take risks had a positive relationship with entrepreneurial intention. However, the need for achievement had no relationship with entrepreneurial intention. The study model predicted approximately 25% of the total variance in entrepreneurial intention. It is recommended that in future studies, the sample size should be increased and the scope of the study should be broadened.
