The study adopted the descriptive survey research design to assess Tertiary Education Trust Fund intervention on academic staff capacity building in Lagos State University, Nigeria. The population for this study was all academic staff of Lagos State University. Two purposes of the study were raised and two research questions were also formulated. One hundred and ninety-six questionnaires were randomly administered to one hundred and ninety-six (196) academic staff in the university. The questionnaire titled "Tetfund Intervention on Academic Staff Capacity Building Questionnaire" was used for data collection. The findings of the study revealed that provision of infrastructure for effective teaching and learning is the major the fund intervention towards qualitative transformation of academic staff in Lagos State University. The finding of the study also showed that the fund intervention in Lagos State University for academic staff capacity building was major priority. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that the fund should eliminate the level of bureaucratic bottlenecks often associated with accessing approved funds. Having noted that University education is costeffective, donor agencies and philanthropic individuals and groups, should assist governments in funding tertiary education in the country.
This study examined Kwara central undergraduates’ perceived peer pressure on youths’ involvement in kidnapping. This study was a descriptive survey. The population comprised of all undergraduates in Kwara Central Senatorial District. The target population was undergraduates from University of Ilorin and Alhikmah University, 500 students were randomly selected. A researcher design questionnaire was used for data collection while data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation (SD), ranking T-test and one-way analysis of variance. Research hypotheses were tested using independent T-test and also one-way analysis of variance at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that peer pressure influences youth involvement in kidnapping in Nigeria; there was no significant difference in the influence of peer pressure on youth’s involvement in kidnapping as perceived by undergraduates based on academic level and school type. It was concluded that peer pressure influences youths’ involvement in kidnapping in Nigeria. We recommend both school and home adequate monitoring of students peers and friends at home and schools to prevent them from bad groups, adequate legislation to curb youth participation in kidnapping, good leadership examples for young ones to emulate and value reorientation of youths should be given top priority in educational curriculum.
This study investigates the prevalence and determinants of sexting behaviour among undergraduates in Kwara State. The population for this study comprised all undergraduates in Kwara State while the target population was undergraduates of three universities in the Kwara States. A stratified sampling the technique was used to categorise universities based on ownership (Federal, State and Private) as well as gender. A random sampling technique was used to select 100 undergraduates from each university, totaling 300 respondents. A researcher-designed questionnaire titled Prevalence and Determinants of Sexting Behaviour Questionnaire (PASODOEBEQ) was used to elicit information from sampled respondents. The instrument was validated by experts in Sociology of Education and Educational Psychology. Test re-test method of reliability was applied to test the reliability of the instrument, using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics. The coefficient value of 0.86r was derived. The data collected were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Multiple Regression Statistical Tool. The result of the findings revealed that sexting behaviour is prevalent among undergraduates and low self-esteem and peer association are significant determinants. The study recommended among others that schools authorities as a matter of fact should organize a sensitization workshop or seminar for undergraduates on the meaning, ripple effects and the punishment associated with sexting behaviour for necessary social adjustment.
Investigating the effectiveness of inmates' educational programs was the major focused of this research in Ilorin remand homes, Nigeria. Specifically inmates' views on effectiveness of vocational and literacy educational program were investigated. This study was descriptive survey.108 inmates were sampled using simple random sampling technique. Two research questions were formulated and a researcher' designed questionnaires containing10 items in two sections with 4-point rating scale was used for data collection while data collected were analyzed using mean scores and standard deviation. The result showed that most inmates positively acknowledged literacy education in recreational, guidance and counseling, religious and social sciences as highly effective and effective respectively and the result also established that most inmates acknowledged vocational education in fashion designing, laundry/dry-cleaning, catering/home management, metal fabrication and electrical maintenance work as highly effective and effective respectively. It was concluded that literacy and vocational education policy for the inmates should be vigorously pursued and implemented in Ilorin, Nigeria. In addition, government and private organization should invest in inmates' literacy and vocational education to correct the erroneous impression that under play inmates' education which leads to their stigmatization at the point of re-entry into the society.
This study adopted descriptive study, four research questions were formulated and one hypothesis was postulated. Ten schools were purposively sampled, in each school ten students and five teachers were randomly selected making one hundred and fifty respondents. The findings of the study showed that 76.0% and 11.0% of the students described as very true and true. The Oil multi-national companies’ educational intervention contributes to the quality delivery of education for students in Ondo State secondary schools with the score of 8.0% and 5.0% of students also indicated untrue and very untrue. The findings showed that, 65.0% and 25.0% of the students described as very strong and strong that students are participating in the opportunities provided by oil multi- national companies for secondary schools in Ondo state while 4.0% and 6.0% described as poor and very poor. This study gave the following recommendations: Government should show a great concern towards the educational wellbeing of students as this would foster sponsors to support the government in educating students, Secondary school management should ensure a proper platform not necessarily an online platform for the awareness of opportunities provided by oil multinational companies to secondary schools to aid quality delivery of western education.
