The era of digital technology demands adjustments for print mass media entrepreneurs to maintain the continuity of their production and marketing. On the other hand, many people still depend on their interest to continue reading the printed version of the newspaper, given the limitations of internet access and the affordability of using a smartphone. This study aims to determine the existence of newspapers or printed newspapers in the city of Medan and the factors that influence their development and implications for public literacy through printed newspapers. This research method uses qualitative research using a content analysis approach by observing the production figures of printed newspapers, the amount of advertising revenue, and critical analysis of literacy issues. The results showed that the daily printed newspapers in Medan, which amounted to 30 newspapers, were in critical condition and estimated to be closed in 2040. The advertising supply at the heart of newspapers declined drastically to the lowest level. The political economy theory of media put forward by Garnham clearly shows that the mass media, including the printed mass media of newspapers, is closely related to economic problems. This means that the mass media of letters will not be able to live without the support of economic power, and of course, it has implications for the level and quality of literacy of those who read through printed newspapers.
This article aims to examine the effect of social media marketing via Instagram on MSME culinary buying decisions. In the digital era, lifestyle is influenced by something that is trending and viral. The use of social media in obtaining information is the most important stage for making purchasing decisions. One of the marketing media that is currently in great demand by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for sales promotion media is social media marketing. The business marketing strategy carried out by MSME actors by utilizing Instagram to do business by uploading the product content they are marketing is persuasive in nature which can attract buyers. This article uses a quantitative descriptive research method, data collection is done by distributing questionnaires through the Google form. The results of the study show that content sharing, connected has a positive and significant effect on purchasing decisions. But content creation, community building has a positive but not significant effect on purchasing decisions so that the hypothesis proves the truth. The partial results (t test) show that the content sharing variable contributes the most dominantly to purchasing decisions. Meanwhile, simultaneously (F test) shows that creating content, sharing content, connecting, building a community together (simultaneously) has a significant effect on purchasing decisions.
Minat membaca seseorang berkorelasi langsung dengan kemampuannya membaca pada waktunya sendiri. Tindakan yang melibatkan interaksi dengan bahan bacaan secara teratur atau berulang disebut kebiasaan membaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana minat baca mahasiswa dan pemanfaatan berbagai bentuk media massa. Dalam penelitian ini, metodologi kualitatif deskriptif digunakan, dan wawancara mendalam yang dilakukan dengan mahasiswa yang terdaftar di Ilmu Komunikasi Humas 1 berfungsi sebagai sumber data utama. Teori Uses and Gratification adalah salah satu yang diterapkan di sini. Berdasarkan temuan analisis data yang dilakukan, diketahui bahwa tingkat minat siswa secara umum terhadap bentuk bacaan media massa seperti koran termasuk dalam kategori rendah. Dalam nada yang sama, penggunaan media massa seperti surat kabar sangat jarang karena kesulitan yang terkait dengan kebutuhan untuk membeli atau berlangganan publikasi. Faktanya, sebagian besar siswa menunjukkan bahwa bentuk media tradisional tidak dapat memenuhi persyaratan mereka, oleh karena itu mereka beralih ke bentuk media online.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan simbol dan makna gambar ilustrasi “Pandemi VS Baliho” yang terdapat pada akun instagram Tempo, dengan menggunakan teknik analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Pierce melalui metode analisis Sign (Tanda), Object (Acuan Tanda), Interpretant (Penggunaan Tanda). Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Hasil dari penelitian ini dapat dijelaskan jika gambar ilustrasi “Pandemi VS Baliho” merupakan penggambaran peristiwa yang benar-benar terjadi di Indonesia dan gambar tersebut merupakan gambar satire atau makna pesan sindiran yang ditujukan kepada para tokoh politik yang melakukan pemasangan baliho di masa pandemi, melalui gambar ini ilustrator ingin “menyentil” para tokoh politik tersebut.
Penelitian in bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Citizen Journalism dalam Pemberitaan di Kota Medan Melalui Media Sosial Instagram MedanTalk. Jenis penelitian in adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Metode pengumpulan data dalam penelitian in yaitu observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi pada postingan instagram MedanTalk periode 1-30 Juni 2021. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan kesimpulan. Teknik keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini adalah kreadibilitas, transferabilitas, dependabilitas dan konfirmabilitas. Hasil penelitian in menunjukkan bahwa Citizen Journalism MedanTalk dalam pemberitan di kota Medan memiliki peran yang efektif dalam penyampaian berita kepada masyarakat secara luas dan lebih cepat di bandingkan media lainnya, karena banyak masyarakat yang sudah mengenal akun instagram MedanTalk sebagai media berita. Citizen journalism membantu masyarakat mengetahui pemberitan di kota Medan terkhususnya di daerah yang belum di masuki oleh wartawan media.
