This study investigated the effect of hydrogen on reduction in area in relation to the storage time of a high carbon steel wire for C-Mn pre-stressed concrete in the context on hydrogen embrittlement of steel. The Monte Carlo Simulation method was employed for the probabilistic analysis. The concentration of hydrogen "C∞", the effective diffusion coefficient "De" these parameters were considered as random fields. The probabilistic response considered in the analysis was the reduction in area "Z". Numerical simulations that make use of second Fick's law were used for the computation of this response. A parametric study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the input and the statistical parameters of the random variables on the probability distribution functions of the response. Also, this study contributes to bring more elements of comprehension on the spatial and temporal variability of the input and output parameters.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
