PACS: 73.21.La; 73.21.Hb The polarizability is estimated for a shallow donor confined to move in a quantum box (QB) with a uniform magnetic field. In this work, the Hass variational method within the effective mass approximation is used in the case of an infinite and a finite barrier potential. We present our results as a function of the size of the box and the intensity of the magnetic field. It is found, that the polarizabilities decrease with decreasing size of the box, reach a minimum value at a certain value of the cross section of the box and increase again when the section becomes significantly smaller. For a higher and larger box, the effects of the magnetic field are predominant. The finite barrier-height effect is important for higher fields and large box. The numerical results are presented for a box made out of GaAs.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
