Giant Electrostriction (GE) of disordered ferroelectrics such as Ferroelectrics with Diffuse Phase Transition (FDPT) is noteworthy for application and basic researches. We present experimental data on the electrostrictive strain in FDPT. The description of the peculiarities of the electrostrictive strain is given. Some possible applications of the materials with GE are reviewed.
The anisotropic photoconductivity and magnetic-field-induced photogalvanic effect in ferroelectric Pb5Ge3O11 crystals have been investigated. From comparison of experimental results with theoretical calculations the mobility of the nonthermalized carriers and the coefficient of the photocarrier alignment are determined.
