A study was conducted at Merowe Research Station Farm, Northern state of Sudan, during two successive winter seasons 2010/11 and 2011/2012. Genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance were determined for yield and its contributing parameters in 12 faba bean genotypes. Data were gathered on the seed yield (kg ha -1 ) and some yield related traits: days to 50% flowering, days to 90% maturity, plant height (cm), number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod and 100-seed weight (g). Analysis of variance for traits studied showed significant differences among genotypes, seasons and their interaction (P ≤ 0.01) for most of the studied traits. High phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was observed for number of pods/plant and 100 -seed weight. Medium PCV was observed for plant height and days to 50% flowering. High genotypic coefficients of variation (GCV) were observed for plant height and 100 -seed weight. Moderate genotypic coefficients of variation were estimated for days to 50% flowering and number of pods/plant. Phenotypic coefficient of variation values for most characters was closer to the corresponding genotypic coefficient of variation values showing little environment effect on the expression of these characters. The estimated values of broad-sense heritability were found to be between 57.97% for 100 -seed weight and 1.87% for number of pods per plant. High heritability indicated that selection based on mean would be successful in improving these traits. Genetic grains that expected from selecting the top 5% of the genotypes, as a present of mean were varied from 0.65% for plant height to 8.45% for 100 -seed weight.
During 2019 and 2020 seasons Ewaise mango trees were subjected three times to foliar application of Egyptian clover and fenugreek seed sprout extract at 0.25 to 1.0%. The study focused on the impact of these treatments on growth, nutritional status of the trees, yield as well as physical and chemical characteristics of the fruits.Spraying Egyptian clover and fenugreek seed sprout extract at 0.25 to 1.0% was effective in enhancing growth traits, tree nutritional status, yield and fruit quality rather than non-application ones. The promotion was associated with increasing concentrations of extract used. Using fenugreek seed sprout extract was superior than using Egyptian clover seed sprout extract in this respect. No significant differences were seen due to increase in the concentration of used extracts. From the economic point of view, use the extracts of 0.5% are preferable.The best results concerning to growth, tree nutritional status, yield and fruit quality of Ewaise mango trees grown under Aswan region conditions were obtained due to use Egyptian clover or fenugreek seed sprout extracts at 0.5% three times.
An experiment was conducted during two successive seasons 2019 and 2020 on mango trees cv. Ewaise to study the effect of foliar application faba bean and chickpea seed sprout extract at 0.25 to 1% applied three times along each season (at growth start, fruit set after immediately and one month later) either each extract was sprayed. The influence was evaluated through the response of vegetative growth, leaf N, P, K content, yield and some fruit physical and chemical characteristics.The obtained results showed that, spaying faba bean and chickpea seed sprout extract at 0.25 to 1% significantly improved the growth traits and nutritional status of trees compared to untreated one. Also, spray treatments significantly increased yield and improved the fruit quality. No significant difference seen in these studied traits due to increase concentration of used extract from 0.5 to 1%. Therefore from economical point view it could be to use faba bean or chickpea seed sprout at 0.5%. Using chickpea seed sprout extracts spray had a noticeable positive effect particularly on some fruit physical and chemical characteristics than using faba bean seed sprout extracts. Therefore, use two plant seed sprout extracts could be safely recommended as a natural biostimulants application for improving growth and fruiting of Ewaise mango trees grown under the same experimental condition.
