Cities around the world are central locations for economic activity, industrial production, research and innovation. Urban environment is a favourable locus for entrepreneurship and living, accumulating a significant share of regional and national administrative, financial and human resources, concentrating advanced public infrastructure and social sector services. In the process of regional development, the integration and coherence between cities strengthen, the functions are redefined, and the specialisation deepens, while the role of the central city(-ies) is reinforced. Consideration of inter-city intraagglomeration socioeconomic integrity and functional interconnectivity is vital for efficient governance. However, the blurred boundaries of urban agglomerations impede elaboration of place-specific development policies on urban and regional growth. Our study is aimed at delimitation of urban agglomeration structure around the Rostov-on-Don-one of the ten largest cities of Russia and the administrative centre of the Southern federal district. Results suggest that Rostov agglomeration continues to evolve with a different level of integrity between city clusters of the three agglomeration arcs. We find that industrial clustering and transportation network determine the developmental trajectory of the urban agglomeration, shaping its spatial configuration and causing pathdependency.
The study of the current state of self-perception of the inhabitants of rural settlements of Yenisei Siberia should be based on the previous experience of studying the “colonization” (development) of Siberia in its various forms. The paper considers the parameters of «rootedness» (stability) as a semantic complex opposed to “mobility”. The material was the speech of Russian-speaking residents of settlements along the Yenisei River, as well as residents of settlements on the Taimyr Peninsula of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The author observes that informants emphasize a stable state at the actual observed time. To indicate the “rootedness”, informants use lexemes with the semantics of being in place, origin from a worthy ancestor, economic or other necessity of previous relocations, toponyms indicating the development of the territory. The author comes to conclusions about the importance demonstrated to the collector for the informant as a functional manager of the locality of the status of permanent residence and full possession of his own territory of the settlement as a whole and its surroundings.
The paper presents a theoretical and experimental confirmation of the technique allowing the surface of defect location and its geometric parameters to be determined from measuring the values of the magnetic field components above one of the surfaces of a magnetically soft ferromagnetic plate. The technique allows one to take into account the nonlinearity of the response of a ferromagnet to an external magnetostatic field.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
