A study of the .spherdidisation process was carried out on bearing steel SAE 52100 utilising two different heat treatment cycles. For transformation temperatures of 700 and 740°C a cubic power law dependen'ce of the Lifshitz:-Wagn'er~Greenwood type was_ found to apply to tFiecoarsening of cementite particles in both an austenitic and aferritic matrix. The rate of coarsening was highest above the critical' A1' temperature. The process was found to be diffusion controlled and values/or the operative diffusion coefficients were determined both above and below the critical temperature. The spheroidisation process was found to involve only the precipitation and·coatseningoj carbide after austenitisingJ with retained carbide particles serving as nucleifor the reprecipitationprocess.MST/3056
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
