Vulkanite sollen --unter Verwendung des QAPF Doppeldreiecks --nach dem modalen Mineralbestand klassifiziert werden, sofern sieh dieser genau genug bestimmen oder abseh~tzen laBt; andernfalls mug die chemisehe Zusammensetzung herangezogen werden. Weitere Empfehlungen beziehen sich auf ,,Ph~ino-Typen", glasfiihrende und glasige Gesteine, die sog. ,,pal~o-vulkanisdaen" Gesteine sowie auf Definitionen einiger Gesteinsnamen.
AbstractThe IUGS Subcommission on the Systematics of Igneous Rocks presents recommendation for the classification and nomenclature of volcanic rocks, lamprophyres, carbonatites and melilitie rocks. It is recommended to classify volcanic rocks according to mineral contents and by using the QAPF double triangle, provided that the modal mineral composition can be determined or estimated with sufficient approximation. Further recommendations refer to "pheno-types", glass-bea~_ng and glassy rocks, "paleo-volcanic" rocks and the definitions of several rock terms.
