A method for obtaining uniform settlement of zoospores of Enteromorpha intestinalis is described. Using this method the optimum temperature for settlement on glass lies between 20 and 25 ° C, and the optimum salinity between 25 and 30°/°°. Light exerts a considerable influence on the initial rate of settlement but is not essential.
Thc activity coelficients of thc n-primary, sccondary and tertiary aliphatic ainines in very dilutc aqucous soltilion were obtained from determinations of partial pressures or from solubility measurements. The activity coefficicnt of n-butylamine increased 1.26 times when the ionic strength of the solution was raiscd from 0 to 0.75, the approximate value for sea water.Free energies of solution, hydration and vaporisation all showed regular increases with the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. The free energy of solution of primary, secondary and tertiary amines increased by 727, 700 and 610 calories respectively and the free energy of hydration by 85, 143 and 52 calories for each carbon atom. Isomeric aliphatic amines showed an increase in total free energy of hydration in thc order, primary, secondary, tertiary, indicating that, as with the isomeric alcohols, the frcc energy of hydration increased as the molecule became more compact.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
