Introduction. The article raises the problem of the necessity of organizing conditions for profession-oriented foreign languages training for non-linguistic students in accordance with the requirements of competence-based approach to education. Professional specialization in foreign languages education is considered in terms of educational process approximation to the real communicative experience in specific professional sphere. The goal of the article is screening, selection and analysis of conceptual bases in higher language education for non-linguistic students.Materials and Methods. To achieve the goal the following research methods were used: the study and comparative analysis of pedagogical, psychological, methodological Russian and foreign literature representing the modern views on current concepts in non-major language education; generalization and synthesis of the most relevant for this paper scientific results; conceptual foresight and modeling the language educational process based on the theoretical results of this research.Results. Quantitative analysis of the reviewed studies on specific methods of profession-oriented foreign languages teaching made it possible to select three the most scientifically justified perspectives on this issue. Language for specific purposes (LSP), content and language integrated learning (CLIL) and context-based approach are considered as the means of professional specialization in foreign languages education. As a result of the research we allocated the most essential characteristics of the described procedures and drew a conclusion about the reasonability of their implementation on different stages of the educational process.Discussion and Conclusions. The results of the analysis may be of interest for those who study specific methods of foreign languages teaching for non-linguistic students as well as the problem of international profession-oriented communicative competency formation in higher education. The theoretical results of the study may form the basis of practical use in specific teaching guides and training materials in language classes for various kinds of non-linguistic specialization areas.
Introduction. Training future engineers for professional activities is an urgent task in modern Russian society. Changes taking place in the global space require an increased emphasis on the need for productive information interaction within the professional activities of technical specialists. The problem of technical university students` ability to use a foreign language as a means of working with professionally oriented information is posed. The purpose of this article is to identify the features of specialists' proficiency in working with foreign language professionally oriented information and to find ways to improve the quality of information activities in a foreign language. Materials and Methods. A review of the literature on the problems of the study was carried out. In the course of the study, methods of theoretical analysis of scientific literature, generalization and systematization, pedagogical observation and modeling were used. Results. The main tasks of professional training of technical specialists in the field of electric power engineering and electrical engineering are given. The importance of mutual integration of professionally oriented knowledge, foreign language proficiency and a set of skills of search, processing, fixation, transfer of information has been substantiated. The category of "foreign language information activity" has been specified. In addition, the structure of foreign language information activity of a technical university student is revealed. Practical experience in forming skills of working with foreign-language professionally oriented information on the basis of the author's textbook is described. The results of the quality of mastering foreign-language information activities by technical university students are given. Discussion and Conclusions. Involving of technical university students in foreign language information activities is one of the effective ways to improve their professional training. The importance of forming and improving the skills of information activity in a foreign language among technical university students during their undergraduate and postgraduate studies is discussed. The question of the possibility of researching these processes in multilingual professional environments is raised.
We consider some culturological approaches in relation to the profile-oriented foreign language training of non-linguist students at the higher school. The planned result of foreign languages teaching is currently described through the concept of foreign language communicative competence, which considers the personality of a student as a set of specific subject skills, knowledge and internal abilities including those, which are related to cultural transformation of the world. The goal of teaching languages consists of four components: practical, developing, upbringing and educational aspects. The practical goal corresponds to specific language knowledge and skills. Development through the process of studying languages is realized by the means of particular methods and techniques. The educational and formative potential is achieved by straightening of the culture-orienting function of the foreign languages educational process. These concrete scientific approaches combine the consideration of the mechanisms of transformation of culture into the world of personality and, accordingly, the influence of a developing personality on changes in cultural forms. We describe general characteristics of the approaches under consideration (socio-cultural, intercultural, multicultural and cultural-axiological) according to possibilities of methodological implementation of their fundamental principles in foreign language classes on the example of students of technical specialties. We consider the described approaches from the position of strengthening the educational potential of the process of foreign languages teaching to students in higher education, associated approaches with the idea of laying the foundations of a humanistically oriented, culturally diverse society, comfortable for personal and professional self-realization. Using the described approaches is advisable to strengthen the educational and upbringing function of foreign language training of students of IT specialties.
