-070Novel Ring Cleavage Based on Intermolecular Aldol Condensation.-Investigated are reactions that are based upon intermolecular aldol condensation of cycloalkanones (I) or (V) or crossed aldol condensation of (I) with various aromatic aldehydes (IX), followed by acetalization with (II) to give intermediates such as (IV), and subsequent ring cleavage yielding cyclic compounds bearing straight side chains, e.g. (III), (VI), or (X), respectively. The reaction mechanisms are discussed. -(NAGUMO, S.; MATSUKUMA, A.; SUEMUNE, H.; SAKAI, K.; Tetrahedron 49 (1993) 46, 10501-10510; Fac. Pharm. Sci., Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka 812, Japan; EN)
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
