Objetivos: Quantificar, através do número de cirurgias majoritariamente indicadas e realizadas pelo serviço de cirurgia geral do Hospital Universitário Walter Cantídio (HUWC), os efeitos da pandemia na formação de residentes em serviço terciário de Fortaleza. Metodologia: Estudo de coorte retrospectivo utilizando dados obtidos junto à Unidade de sistemas de informação e inteligência de dados e ao Sistema Master do HUWC. Foram utilizados como base para este estudo o número de procedimentos realizados, em regime de urgência ou de forma eletiva: colecistectomias (aberta ou videolaparoscópica) e hernioplastia inguinal (uni ou bilaterais) realizados entre Abril/20 a Junho/21 e período imediatamente anterior à pandemia - Abril/18 a Junho/19. Resultados: Encontramos uma redução de pouco mais de 50% no número absoluto de cirurgias majoritariamente executadas pelo serviço de cirurgia geral. Conclusão: Analisando os dados, podemos ver que houve decréscimo importante do número de procedimentos indicados e realizados pelo serviço de cirurgia geral do HUWC, havendo, pois, menor espaço para prática pelos residentes do serviço. Não sabemos, até o momento, a repercussão que tal déficit trará à atividade profissional dos futuros cirurgiões.
