Resumo Utilizou-se o modelo de Hoss (2003) de avaliação de ativos intangíveis de uma instituição do terceiro setor, com uma pesquisa qualitativa, exploratória, com foco no passado-futuro e presente-futuro dos quadrantes humano, estrutural, de processos e ambiental. Avaliou-se a contribuição dos voluntários na criação de valor para a sustentabilidade organizacional. Em 2007-2011, os valores intangíveis alcançaram 94,05% do valor da organização e os tangíveis 5,95%. Em 2012-2013, os intangíveis representaram 88,68% e os tangíveis 11,32%. A mão de obra voluntária representou em média 77,92% do valor da organização. O alto índice de correlação entre as variáveis do Lucro Intangível Ajustado (LIA) e da Apuração do Valor Intangível (AVI) denotou o valor criado com a aplicação de ativos intangíveis e com a utilização da mão de obra voluntária. Palavra chaves: sustentabilidade, intangíveis, voluntariado 1. Introdução O presente trabalho aplicou um modelo de avaliação de ativos intangíveis em instituições do terceiro setor. No final do século XX, aumentou a importância dos ativos intangíveis que passaram a fazer parte dos balanços convencionais, sendo que vários estudos foram realizados para mensurá-los sendo capazes de identificar fluxos de caixa relevantes para as empresas. As áreas de ciências contábeis, economia e administração, além da estatística consideraram ainda os diversos modelos e métodos internacionais e, mesmo assim, precisaram preparar-se para preencher as lacunas deixadas pela contabilidade convencional. Ao longo do tempo constatou-se que algumas metodologias internacionais usadas para avaliar os ativos intangíveis são limitadas por basearem-se em premissas inconsistentes, tais como aquelas que possibilitam calcular o valor intangível de uma empresa como sendo a diferença entre valor contábil e valor de mercado. Sabe-se que existe um erro de valoração pelo mercado que é intensamente influenciado por expectativas e ganhos futuros, além do crescente distanciamento entre o valor contábil e o valor real dos ativos e passivos. Esta percepção da importância crescente dos ativos intangíveis no campo empresarial despertou a necessidade da mensuração do capital intelectual, porque, mesmo em se tratando de bens não corpóreos e altamente subjetivos, ficou evidente a magnitude de sua contribuição ao valor da organização e a conseqüente aplicação de ferramentas que os quantificassem. Isto se deveu, também, ao fato, já reconhecido, de que a contabilidade tradicional não seria capaz de revelar o valor criado, seja nas organizações voltadas para o lucro, seja nas organizações sociais, caracterizadas pela busca da maximização de resultados ou de impactos transformadores. Desta forma, sedimentou-se a crença de que o sistema baseado em relatórios financeiros não revela todos os fatos, sobretudo em relação aos intangíveis e ao capital intelectual, conforma a visão de Stewart (1998).
