Average daily productions of litter in mangroves of two localities, Ras Ghallab and Midaya in Jizan region of southern part of Saudi Arabian Red Sea coast, were 2.87 and 3.37 g dry wt m-2 day-1, respectively,. during June 1986-May 1987 and were comparable with other productive mangrove areas of the world. In general, the level of production remained more or less the same throughout the year in both localities except for summer season when it was relatively higher. Leaves contributed overwhelmingly to the total litter and reproductive parts becoming significant only during summer.
