The diffraction of X-rays by a nematic polybenzothiazole fiber produces an intensity distribution in reciprocal space that is a composite of what has been predicted for isolated periodic cylinders and for parallel arrays of infinite cylinders. It consists of periodically spaced disks and equatorial maxima corresponding to a hexagonal packing of cylinders. The number of parallel cylinders comprising coherently diffracting bundles can be estimated by comparing calculated intensity distributions rather than from line-breadth measurements of equatorial intensities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
