It is impossible to overestimate the profound impact that cloud computing will have for all governments across every function that leverages technology. In most cases, the starting motivation will be cost reduction-but very quickly agencies of all sizes realize cloud computing can be a powerful tool to speed up innovation. Even though we hear about the tens of billions of dollars spent on cloud last year, we are just scratching the surface of this market. Large public sector enterprises in highly regulated environments have moved less than 30% of the computing needs to the cloud. This low adoption has a very simple explanation: most decision makers are concerned about the security and regulatory compliance of public cloud environments. And these concerns are not unfounded, data breach incidents are on the rise both in terms of frequency and also in terms of the cost of a single incident for an affected organization. In this session, we will discuss the new developments that are delivering the desired levels of security, but that, until recently, were not readily available in public cloud models.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
