In recent years the operating conditions of open hearths have changed. The consumption of hot metal has decreased and the consumpion of scrap has correspondingly increased and the share of low-alloy and alloy steel has increased. The thermal operation of the furnaces has become poorer [i] and the wear of the furnace roofs has increased. The authors of this article have investigated the influence of the quality of periclase--chromite parts on their wear rate and the life of open hearth roofs. In the Magnesite Combine production lots of experimental periclase--chromite parts containing 52-56% electrofused periclase--chromite of the 3-0.063-mm fraction, 15-17% chromite of the 3-0.5-mm fraction, and 28-32% electrofused finely ground periclase were produced using the method of [2].
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
