Für das Verständnis der Adsorptionsbedingungen an Metalloberflächen ist es wesentlich, das Potential ϕN, welches dem Nullpunkt der Ladung der Metalloberfläche entspricht, zu kennen. Es wird eine Übersicht einiger Methoden gegeben, die zur Bestimmung von ϕN geeignet sind. Einwände gegen die von Oel uud Strehlow vorgeschlagene Gegenüberstellung von„Lippmann‐Potentialen”︁ und„Billiter‐Potentialen”︁ werden erhoben.Eine besonders ausgeprägte Abhängigkeit der Kinetik der elektrochemischen Reaktion von dem Zeichen der Ladung der Metalloberfläche und dem Bau der Ionendoppelschicht beobachtet man bei der Reduktion mehrwertiger Anionen, wie es auf Grund von theoretischen Betrachtungen auch zu erwarten war. Bei der Deutung der Beeinflussung der Kinetik elektrochemischer Vorgänge durch die Adsorption von Fremd‐anionen muß man zwischen Effekten unterscheiden, die durch Veränderungen des Baues der Doppelschicht erklärt werden können, und solchen, die auf eine innigere chemische Wechselwirkung zwischen adsorbierten Anionen und Metalloberfläche hinweisen. Der Mechanismus der Einwirkung von adsorbierten Neutral‐molekülen auf elektrochemische Vorgänge wird erörtert.
