O que este livro manifesta -já em seu título: "Tijolos contra muros: contribuições críticas do Serviço Social na Educação" -é que a contribuição crítica do Serviço Social na educação vem, cada vez melhor, compreendendo e revelando a sua condição inerente de ser "muro e liberdade", contraditoriamente ao mesmo tempo. Quando crescemos e fomos à escola, tudo era apenas um tijolo no muro. Havia e há certo modelo de educação que machuca, que aliena, que desumaniza crianças, adolescentes, jovens e adultos. Todos são somente "tijolos na parede", como diz a velha canção do Pink Floyd.Nós, classe trabalhadora, não desejamos essa educação. Não precisamos de controle, mas de autonomia. Não precisamos de muros, mas de asas. Não compactuamos com a educação tradicional hegemônica.E desejamos outra. "Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!", clama Roger Waters (1979) em Another Brick in the Wall. Acontece que nós, assistentes sociais, também somos parte dessa parede. De maneira geral, a força de trabalho de qualquer profissional da educação é comprada por aqueles que precisam de mais controle e menos autonomia. De muros enormes e asas diminutas. Todos são somente tijolos na parede, mas podemos ser também tijolos contra essa parede. Ou seja, concomitantemente, tijolos contra muros.O Serviço Social é parte de um complexo processo que realiza o direito social a uma educação conformista e acrítica, mas que somente através do seu acesso e permanência os trabalhadores poderão dela se apropriar com vista a sua transformação. Reconhecendo, assim, os limites históricos da sua condição de classe ao mesmo tempo em que aponta para um novo futuro sem classes. Uma educação que eleve a outro patamar as conquistas até aqui já objetivadas, através de um processo dialético de conservação-superação dessas conquistas e orientado por um tipo de educação inconciliável com a ordem do capital, mas que se fortifique por dentro dela. Articulando o conjunto de atividades educativas com as lutas sociais, tanto específicas como gerais, da classe trabalhadora organizada.Nesta direção, o GEPESSE que recentemente completou uma década de existência (2010-2019), vem contribuindo com o processo de crítica à política educacional brasileira e na construção do trabalho do assistente social na perspectiva de efetivação de "[...] atividades educativas emancipadoras [...]" (TONET, 2014, p. 1). A publicação deste livro, resultante de um coletivo de autores, estudiosos, pesquisadores, trabalhadores que atuam na área da educação que compartilham com a vertente teórico-crítica sobre educação e serviço social, nos honra neste momento de celebração da existência do GEPESSE.Concordamos plenamente com Paulo Freire (patrono da Educação brasileira) ao afirmar que: "A educação como prática de liberdade, ao contrário daquela que é prática de dominação, implica a negação do homem abstrato, isolado, solto, desligado do mundo, assim como também a negação do mundo como uma realidade ausente do homem."
