The survey area is located about 70 km southeast of Gedarif city, in Gedarif State east of Sudan, within two major lithological associations, representing two different crustal entities; Saharan Metacraton (SMC) in the west and the Arabian Nubian Shield (ANS) to the east. This study aims to investigate the post-orogenic granites at Qala En Nahal-Um Sagata. Geologically, both the petrographic characteristics and rock geochemistry investigation have been conducted in order to determine the tectonic environment and original protolith of these granites rocks. The area is made up of predominantly low-grade volcano-sedimentary rocks, ophiolite complex and belt of high-grade metasediments and gneiss into which voluminous granitic rocks have been emplaced. The post-orogenic granites of Ban-Balos are non foliated, high K calc-alkaline, I-type, post-dating the main collisional event emplacement at shallow levels intrusions.
The mineral exploration has improved in the last decades, today there are different methods of remote exploration, that are applied in mining industry worldwide, helping to discover ore minerals deposits in zones that have not access to them. The study area of this article is located about 400 km from Khartoum, characterized by low reliefs covered by sand and gravely sand. The study wants to carry out the geological mapping and the prospective zones using remote sensing and GIS techniques. Sudan is characterized by geological formations over inaccessible areas, in that way the remote sensing technique has a great value in these conditions, saving time and money. The used methodology has been divided into three phases: Pre-field office work, field work and post-field work. The processing of the satellite images includes color band composites, in order to obtain the lithological and geological features, the different types of rocks were defined by a different color. Obtaining the following rock types: High-grade gneisses and migmatites described to comprise the basement complex, ophiolitic mafic-ultramafic rocks that appear in the northern and southern sides of the area, metasediments that cover most of the study area, syn-orogenic intrusions that cut the older mafic-ultramafic units and the metavolcanosedimentary sequences, post-orogenic intrusions and gold mineralization. Based on the image analysis results of Landsat 8 OLI, 32 ore samples were collected to analysis gold and pathfinder elements obtaining high anomalies results for Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, Pb and Fe.
New plant fossils collected in 2016 from the Derevyannye Gory Formation on the New Siberia Island are studied. Thirty species of fossil plants are identified and illustrated. They belong to liverworts, ferns, ginkgoaleans, conifers and angiosperms. Sixteen of them have not beed found in the New Siberia Flora before. A new angiosperm species Dalembia (?) gracilis Herman is described. The New Siberia Flora is characterised by a moderately high taxonomic diversity, predominance of conifers and angiosperms with large-leafed platanoids and trochodendroids being the most abundant among angiosperms, by predominance of dentate-margined angiosperms and rarity of plants with entire-margined leaves, and by absence of cycadaleans and bennettitaleans. The flora existed during the Turonian–Coniacian time interval and most probably should be dated as Turonian. Plants of the New Siberia Flora experienced a warm-temperate humid climate with warm summers, mild frost-free winters and insignificant seasonality in precipitation.
