During a carbohydrate-rich diet the liver contains a large amount of evenly distributed glycogen. During a fat-rich diet glycogen is located mainly in zone 1 of the liver acinus. These results suggest that different acinar enzyme patterns can be induced by different diets. The acinar glycogen patterns remain unchanged during prolonged starvation. The curve of glycogen percentage vs. starvation t i m e has the same general shape as the curve representing the changes in resistance during the generaladap tation-syndrome.
