Resumo: O aparecimento de microaneurismas (MAs) é o primeiro sinal de que um paciente possui retinopatia diabética (RD). Neste artigo, a proposta foi demonstrar a aplicação do algoritmo Contrasted Limited Adaptative Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) para realçar imagens de fundo de olho e, assim, melhorar o contraste dos microaneurismas, para que esta imagem possa ser utilizada em um sistema automático de detecção de RD. Neste trabalho, o algoritmo foi aplicado no canal verde da imagem, devido ao fato de que os microaneurismas apresentam-se com um melhor contraste neste canal em relação aos demais canais (vermelho e azul). Foi utilizada a métrica measure of enhancement (EME) para avaliar a melhoria de contraste. Palavras-chave:Microaneurismas, CLAHE, EME, Retinopatia Diabética. A RD pode ser classificada de duas formas: retinopatia diabética não proliferativa (RDNP) ou retinopatia diabética proliferativa (RDP). Esta classificação é feita a partir do surgimento de algumas características na retina [2]. RDNP possui três estágios: inicial, moderado e grave. No estágio inicial, ocorre o aparecimento de MAs, no moderado a retina apresenta MAs, hemorragias e exsudatos moles, enquanto no estágio severo há a presença de inúmeros MAs, hemorragias e exsudatos duros. O paciente, estando no estágio severo, tem chance de, em pouco tempo, evoluir para RDP, que se caracteriza principalmente pelo aparecimento de neovasos. Neste estágio os vasos sanguíneos estão frágeis e correm risco de se romperem e liberarem sangue para o humor vítreo, causando a perda de visão do paciente, podendo levar este à cegueira [3]. AbstractOs MAs podem ser vistos como pontos vermelhos, são lesões de formato sacular que surgem nas paredes dos vasos. As hemorragias intra-retinianas são lesões vermelhas maiores e mais irregulares ocorridas na retina, que geralmente desaparecem depois de 3 a 4 meses. Já os exsudatos são lesões de aspecto amarelado, resultado de deposição de lipídeos e proteínas na retina [4].Quanto mais cedo for detectado da RD, mais chance o paciente tem de retardar a progressão da doença, e assim, diminuir as chances de o paciente ficar cego. O diagnóstico manual requer muito esforço do especialista em oftalmologia para detectar as características que indicam a presença de RD. Apesar de o especialista ser bem treinado, podem ocorrer erros e, além disso, este diagnóstico manual demanda uma duração de tempo longa para ser realizado [5].A utilização de técnicas de processamento digital de imagens e visão computacional [6] promove maior facilidade no diagnóstico, pois a detecção da RD é realizada de forma automática ou semi-automática.
