Multibody-System-Simulation in Bridge-and Hydraulic Steel Structural Engineering. For the dimensioning of Bridges andHydraulic Steel Structures it is State-of-the-Art to use the Finite-Element-Method for statical and dynamical calculations whereas the use of the Multibody-System-Simulation (MBS) in that field is concentrated only on a few special applications. Although this method could be used in a very good way for the dimensioning of bascule and swing bridges, lock gates, ship hoists and Roll-on-Roll-off Plants for Ferry Boats. Beside the investigations of the normal operation the simulation has the significant advantage that it is possible to analyse without any danger extraordinary operational situations and possible damages. This aspect becomes also more important for the dimensioning of large wind turbines especially for offshore applications. By using the largest swing bridge in the world over the Suez-Canal at El-Ferdan as an example the paper shows the possibilities and advantages of the Multibody-System-Simulation to solve dynamical problems in Bridge and Hydraulic Steel Structural E...
