The spatio-temporal e v o l u t i o n o f p a r t i c u l a t e c h l o r o p h y l l i n suspension i n the Gironde estuary has been studied by photo acoustic spectroscopy. Disapearance o f f l u v i a l c h l o r o p h y l l has been observed i n the upper p a r t o f the estuary; i t has been c o r r e l a t e d w i t h the increase i n t u r b id i t y. Q u a n t i t a t i v e measurements have been tempted using c a l i b r a t i o n w i t h algaes c u l t u r e s o f v a r y i n g t u r b i d i t y. Chlorophyll again appears near by the sea. Marine c h l o r o p h y l l has a s h i f t e d spectrum r e l a t i v e t o the f l u v i a t i l one. Such an observation has been possible because photo acoustic technique does n o t necessitate any sample chemical preparation.
