Abstract-The Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) stellarator project goal is to demonstrate that the stellarator is a viable option for a fusion power-plant. W7-X is in an advanced state of construction and has entered the assembly phase in at the Max-Planck-Institute für Plasmaphysik (IPP) in Greifswald, Germany.The W7-X "pentagonal" basic magnet system is highly sensitive to parameter variations; the cryostat comprises two vessels, which are interconnected elastically by 299 ports. The strategy of the structural analysis for this complex mechanical system is being developed and implemented with the ultimate goal to create a tree of numerical models which reliably predict the stellarator structural behaviour. This paper gives an overview of the strategy, addresses the critical issues and focuses on the most interesting results of the analyses.
We present a simple calculus where imperative features are modeled by just rewriting source code terms, rather than by modifying an auxiliary structure which mimics physical memory. Formally, this is achieved by the block construct, introducing local variable declarations, which also plays the role of store when such declarations have been evaluated. In this way, we obtain a language semantics which is more abstract, and directly represents at the syntactic level constraints on aliasing, allowing simpler reasoning about related properties. We illustrate this possibility by a simple extension of the standard type system which assigns a capsule tag to expressions that will reduce to (values representing) isolated portions of store
___________________________________________________________________The WENDELSTEIN 7-X (W7-X) is a super-conducting helical advanced stellarator. W7-X is provided with 299 ports, which connect the plasma vessel with the outer vessel. All the ports are equipped with bellows, which, during bake-out and final adjustment, compensate the relative movements of the vessels. The lateral stiffness which was calculated with the established standard EJMA-code [1] seemed to be relatively small. This appeared to be not correct in particular for non circular bellows. The stiffness of rectangular, multi-layer bellows have then been re-calculated with the Finite Element Method (FEM) code ANSYS. The maximum difference between the FEM and EJMA code resulted to be up to 250 % in particular with movements along the longer side of the bellows. In order to clarify the differences a test-campaign with the largest rectangular bellows was performed.
