A new application of high-speed imaging to measure spatiotemporal vibratory behaviours of a vocal fold scar is investigated in excised larynx experiments. Eigenmode analysis reveals that pathologically scarred vocal folds produce spatiotemporal asymmetry and spread energy across high-order eigenmodes. The global entropy of scarred vocal folds is statistically higher than the normal vocal folds. This study suggests that spatiotemporal analysis may provide a valuable tool for describing the spatiotemporal dynamics of vocal fold scars.National Institute of Deafness and other Communication Disorders [1-RO1DC006019
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
