This paper illustrates the vibration control effectiveness of passive viscoelastic dampers for regular or irregular structures. Its optimum installation location is determined from the controlled mode shape values and the optimal system parameters of the viscoelastic passive dampers are evaluated by minimizing the modal displacement response and maximizing the damping energy dissipation capacity between the structure with and the structure without the dampers. The analytical results of the parametric investigation show that the seismic response of regular or irregular structures are greatly improved by using viscoelastic dampers, leading to an alternative method of strengthening compared to the traditional rehabilitation techniques.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
