Field experiments were conducted on the growing seasons 2008 and 2009 at a private farm located at a newly reclaimed sandy area, El-Saff, Giza governorate, Egypt to evaluate the drip irrigation levels in combination with equal two types of organic fertilizers for an okra crop. The effect of three irrigation levels 1198.8 (I 1 ), 1798.2 (I 2 ) and 2397.6 (I 3 ) m3/acre with drip in conjunction with two organic fertilizers (composted plant residues and chicken manure at the rate of 6 m 3 / acre ) were studied on growth and yield response, using split block design. The results of drip irrigation in conjunction with two types of organic fertilizers were evaluated in terms of growth , yield, water use efficiency and nutrients uptake of the crop. The study indicated that irrigation water quantity 1798.2 (I 2 ) m3/acre met through drip irrigation along with the two types organic fertilizers gave the highest yield (3.3 M g/acre) with 104% increase in yield as compared to I 1 and I 3 . It can be seen that the plant growth and yield were greater in drip with chicken manure as compared to plant residues. The obtained results clear that NPK uptake were significantly affected by water levels and both plant residues and chicken manure. The additional more of irrigation water caused on increase in the uptake of N P K and if compared to the lowest level of irrigation water it increased the growth parameters in expense of okra yield.

A field experiment was conducted in a newly reclaimed soil at El-Saff region, El-Giza Governorate, Egypt to study the effects of different rates of nitrogen (N: 62 to 248 kg ha −1 ) with or without soil inoculation of sulfur-(S-) oxidizing bacteria (SoxB) and combined inoculation of SoxB and N-fixing bacteria (NFxB) on yield, quality and nutritional status of onion (Allium cepa L., "Giza 20"). Elemental S at 620 kg ha −1 was applied to all treatments. Application of N at 62, 124, and 248 kg ha −1 rates increased onion yield, plant height, and N uptake by 28 to 76%, 32 to 53%, and 61 to 145%, as compared to those of the plants that received no N. Inoculation of SoxB at various N rates increased onion yields by 47 to 69% and N uptake by 76 to 93%, as compared to those of the plants which received the respective rates of N but no SoxB inoculation. Inoculation with SoxB and NFxB increased onion yield by 221%, plant height by 62%, and N uptake by 629%, as compared to those of the plants grown without inoculation and no N applied.

Biscuit produced from wheat flour (WF 100%) supplemented with sweet potato powder (SPp) and pumpkin powder (Pp) at three level (5,10and15%) to enrich vitamin A and replacement sugar with black strap molasses to produce biscuits enriched with iron. The products were analyzed chemically and organoleptic evaluation was carried out. The results indicated the high contents of vitamin A found in Pumpkin powder (Pp) followed by sweet potato powder (SPp) with12663.67 and 8551.33 IU/100g respectively. As a result of supplemented sweet potato powder (SPp) and pumpkin powder (Pp) to wheat flour (WF 100%) gave higher vitamin A content (1041.33,1777.33,1041.33 and 1458.33 IU/100g respectively on other biscuit samples. The lowest level of vitamin A supplemented both of 10 % with sweet potato powder (SPp) and pumpkin powder (Pp) were 666.67 and 877.33 IU /100 g respectively in biscuit formula. On other hand iron content was higher in biscuit formula with black strap molasses than control. The percentage of iron content was increased from 1.40 to 5.90 mg /100g respectively for all biscuit formula. Evaluation of organoleptic properties clearly indicated the best tow samples, the supplemented with 10% sweet potato powder (SPp) and 5%pumikin powder (Pp) .showed that the best overall acceptability and ability value were (76.04 and 91.40 %), The quantities of this two chosen samples covered the daily requirement of vitamin A for children (9-12 year) showed that 137.11g and 192.1g from tow best samples .Supplementing both of sweet potato and pumpkin powder to wheat flour improved protein efficiency ratio and biological value (2.91, 2.86 ,80.52, 79.99). finally, results indicated that Supplementing both of sweet potato and pumpkin powder to wheat flour at different levels with replacement sugar by black strap molasses were optimal for producing of biscuits riches in vitamin A and iron content .

In recent years Jatropha curcas L. has emerged as a biofuel crop with potential for its production in marginal land with application of treated sewage water. Since this is a new crop for its profitable cultivation, additional research is needed to develop optimal management programs, including macro and micronutrients applications. A pot experiment was conducted in a Greenhouse at the National Research Center, Dokki, Cairo, Egypt, during 2010 summer to evaluate effects of varying concentrations of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) in irrigation water (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ppm) on the growth, biomass production, photosynthetic pigments, and mineral nutrients status in the plants. Increasing concentrations of Fe, Mn, and Zn in irrigation water up to 150 ppm increased the biomass weight, photosynthetic pigments, and nutrient uptake by Jatropha plants. Further increase in concentrations of micronutrients showed negative effects on the above response parameters. Therefore, this study demonstrates that Jatropha can be grown under irrigation using waste water containing reasonable concentrations of micronutrients and heavy metals. This property of Jatropha provides some support for potential use of this crop for phytoremediation of metal contaminated soils. However, long term field research is needed to further verify both the above beneficial effects.
