Abstract

It is shown in many books that the shape factor of shear deformation is derived by energy methods. However, that method doesn't satisfy the principle of force equilibrium and superposition. This paper solves these problems and corrects shape coefficient values. In the process, the author proposes the method to separate beam bending and shearing. As a result, if cross section is rectangular, the shape factor of shear deformation is 1.
