Abstract

The article presents a review of literature data on relevance, pathogenetic mechanisms, risk factors for stroke and post-stroke depression. There are given epidemiological data on the prevalence of this pathological condition, as well as factors contributing to its development. The main patterns of development of depressive disorder in patients with cerebral stroke are listed. The authors analyze relationship of depression with the localization of the pathological focus in the brain, the affected vascular pool, as well as the possible mechanisms for the development of post-stroke depression from the point of view of neurotransmitter systems.
