High-spin states in48Ti

The ~SSc(e,p?) reaction has been investigated at E~= 11, 12 and 13 MeV. The ?-decay of 198 levels in 48Ti up to 8,323 keV excitation energy has been observed. High-spin states were investigated by proton-? ray angular correlation measurements at E~=ll and 13MeV and by DSAM lifetime measurements at E~=llMeV. From the combined evidence spin (-parity) assignments were obtained for the levels at E~=8(6 +) and 4,046 keV (5). Most of the ambiguous spin assignments become unique if the 8,091keV level has J = 12, an assumption which is favoured by its excitation function. The level spectrum thus obtained is well reproduced by shell model calculations in the pure (f7/2) 8 configuration space. Discrepancies exist in the reproduction of ?-decay modes. The reason is found in low-lying high-spin intruder states which include the 7,427 and 8,323 keV levels. The spectrum of negative-parity states is understood qualitatively by a comparison with 46Ti and 42Ca.

The low energy and giant dipole resonance properties of ~6,48,50Ti have been investigated within the fl'amework of the collective model of Gneuss and Greiner. The starting potential energy surfaces were taken from Rebel and Habs from which the low energy properties were compared with both an asymmetric rotator model and a shell model calculation. The giant dipole absorption cross sections compared favourably with the experimental data. However, the scarcity of data relating to the 7-scattering from the giant dipole resonance states to the low lying levels made any detailed comparison incomplete.
