Abstract:The effect of local corrosion on the dynamics of macrolocalized deformation bands and the destruction of an AlMg6 aluminum-magnesium alloy was investigated by high-speed video filming of the deformable sample surface. It has been established that a corrosion stain caused by a local effect of sodium hydroxide on the surface of the alloy is an attractor of deformation bands, the interaction of which leads to premature failure and reduction of the ductility of the alloy.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
