χ(2) Grating in Ru Derivative Chromophores Incorporated within the PMMA Polymer Matrices

Abstract: We have found that Ru derivative chromophores incorporated into the PMMA polymer matrices might be considered as promising materials for optical poling. The maximally achieved effective second-order optical susceptibility for the wavelength 1.89 µm is about 1.94 pm/V. The investigated composites possess metastable trapping levels originating both from the d states of Ru and due to effective charge transfer due to the presence of π-conjugated states. Because of incorporation of the chromophore into polymer matr… Show more

“…For the third-order NLO susceptibilities for organometallic compounds principal role begins to play the charge transfer between the ligands and the metals [8,9]. Although the above materials were exhaustively discussed in terms of crystal growth, structural and optical properties, its third order NLO properties still remain unexplored.…”

“…It is important to determine the magnitude of the nonlinearity of materials to select suitable materials as OL media . The contribution of the ionic components plays a role in the nonlinear optical properties of such materials . Since the first reports on the potential use of phthalocyanines as OL materials in 1989, a lot of research work was devoted to investigate their structural and spectroscopic properties, synthesis techniques, and non‐linear optical (NLO) properties .…”

“…The efficiency of such polymers is dependent on the dipole-dipole interaction between the chromophore and the polymer chains of matrix [6]. The organometallic chromophores are very promising due to their relatively high stability with respect to the laser beam density as well as to other external conditions, such as, for instance, photomechanical and different chemical environment [7].…”
