Abstract:Peripheral blood monocytes are playing a central role in atherosclerosis development. These cells bind in the vassal epithelium and migrate to the subendothelial space, where monocytes phagocytose oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDL) through CD36 scavenger receptors and turn into foam cells.
