“…In previous studies, it has been reported that certain bioactive molecules, including UA, BA, GA, ST, and BT have inhibitory effects on tumor cells. 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 Therefore, we also investigated the inhibitory effects of these bioactive molecules on GBM and attempted to explore their combined effects with PTX. According to the results, at a concentration of 2 μM, certain bioactive molecular NPs exhibit inhibitory effects on U87MG, among which ST NPs demonstrated the strongest effect with an inhibition rate of 12.3% (Figure S1 ).…”

“…β-Sitosterol is known to possess anticancer activity against various cancers. 47 A higher dietary intake of β-sitosterol is associated with a lower risk of ESCC, and phytosterol-rich foods or supplements are essential for preventing squamous esophageal cancer. 48 The ability of β-sitosterol to act on the five core genes identified was evaluated in this study.…”

“…After dietary intake, β-sitosterol arrives in the stomach and small intestine where it is integrated into mixed micelles with bile salts and other lipids; due to its high hydrophobicity, its incorporation into micelles is competitive and less efficient compared to cholesterol (Li et al, 2022). β-Sitosterol is absorbed through the enterocytes lining the gut wall predominantly via passive diffusion, although some data suggest active transport via Niemann-Pick C1-like 1 (NPC1L1) protein as well (Jesch et al, 2009;Wang et al, 2023). Once absorbed, β-sitosterol bypasses the hepatic portal circulation and directly enters the systemic circulation (Feng et al, 2018); it has been found to induce cytochrome P450 enzymes, particularly CYP3A4, which could have implications for drugphytosterol interactions (Hwang et al, 2008).…”
