Abstract:Oocyte cytoplasm is able to reprogram somatic nuclei to totipotency, suggesting that maternally provided factors reprogram and trigger zygotic genome activation (ZGA) in the embryo. The transcription factors that initiate ZGA are poorly conserved between species and largely unknown in mammals. Pioneer factors bind nucleosomal DNA and are recruited to closed chromatin in vivo, eliciting chromatin opening and ZGA in fruit flies and zebrafish, although it is unknown whether these act in mammals as well. This study… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
