Zweijährige Interferon-Therapie eines metastasierten Carcinoids

Abstract: A 39 year old male patient was treated with daily 5 X 10(6) IU interferon alpha 2b s.c. for 22 months because of advanced carcinoid tumor. Objective response was achieved with greater than 50% reduction of 5-HIAA-excretion. Multiple metastases (liver, lung, bones, thyroid gland) were not progressing in size. An unintentional omission of treatment resulted in a rapid biochemical and morphological tumor progression. Reversibility was achieved with reinstitution of effective interferon therapy. Thus, interferon t… Show more

“…These agents can offer good symptomatic relief, and in some cases, tumor stabilisation or regression can be seen [41][42][43][44][45]. In one case, omission of a-interferon led to tumor progres sion which was reversible when treatment was reinsti tuted [44]. Octreotide has also been used successfully for the treatment of carcinoid storm and for its prevention or treatment during surgery [41][42][43], Hepatic artery ligation alone or in association with chemotherapy has also of fered relief from carcinoid syndrome [42], Octreotide has also occasionally been successful in relieving Cushing's syndrome due to ectopic ACTH secretion.…”
