The internationally recognized AOAC multiresidue method has been extended for the determination of thiocarbamate herbicides in deep frozen vegetables. N,2,6-trichlorobenzoquinone imine or N-chloro-2,6-dibromobenzoquinone imine was used for thin layer chromatographic detection and semiquantitative determination of these herbicides with a sensitivity of 50 ng/spot.Though in the past 10 years the utilization of thiocarbamate herbicides have raised all over the world, the residue analysis of these agricultural chemicals is still a challenging problem [ 11. A multiresidue method was published for the determination of 7 thiocarbamates by GLC [2-51. Some other works deal with the identification of these herbicides in water [6,7J, blood [7] and in food samples [S]. Until now, however, little work has been done to determine the residues of thiocarbamates with methods used for the analysis of other types of pesticides, i. e. organochlorines or organophosphates.The AOAC multiresidue methodology for pesticide residues in foods [9] is an internationally recognized and widely used technique and is effective for the determination of residues of numerous organochlorine and organophosphate chemicals. Furthermore, it contains some optional or alternative steps introduced for the determination of residues of some other pesticides.For analysis of thiocarbamates (EPTC, butylate, cycloate and molinate) in frozen vegetables (peas, beans, potatoes) we have applied the AOAC multiresidue method for organochlorine insecticide residues in nonfatty foods 193.Preparations of samples and extractions were made according to the moisture and sugar content of the food or food products [9]. After transferring the residues to petroleum ether the cleanup of the sample was carried out on Florisil column deactivated with 5 % water and eluted with petroleum ether containing ether in 6 % and 15 % [9].Petroleum ether containing 6 % ether eluted EPTC and cycloate quantitatively, while only approximately 80 % of butylate and molinate was recovered with this solvent system.
