Subsurface cisterns (SSC's) are large, flattened, membrane-limited vesicles which are very closely apposed to the inner aspect of the plasma membranes of nerve cell bodies and the proximal parts of their processes. They occur in a variety of vertebrate and invertebrate neurons of both the peripheral and central nervous systems, but not in the surrounding supporting cells. SSC's are sheet-like in configuration, having a luminal depth which may be less than 100 A and a breadth which may be as much as several microns. They are separated from the plasmalemma by a light zone of ∼50 to 80 A which sometimes contains a faint intermediate line. Flattened, agranular cisterns resembling SSC's, but structurally distinct from both typical granular endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and from Golgi membranes, also occur deep in the cytoplasm of neurons. It is suggested that membranes which are closely apposed may interact, resulting in alterations in their respective properties. The patches of neuronal plasmalemma associated with subsurface cisterns may, therefore, have special properties because of this association, resulting in a non-uniform neuronal surface. The possible significance of SSC's in relation to neuronal electrophysiology and metabolism is discussed.

The increasingly fierce competition mechanism inspired this research in vocational high schools in Indonesia.The State Vocational High School (SMK Negeri) 2 Kalianda, South Lampung, lacked facilities and human resources that can support students success. It also lacked the motivation to face the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. This phenomenon is interesting to explore. This research aimed to illustrate the strategic management of the school. The research was an interpretive paradigm by employing the descriptive qualitative method. The research data were obtained from the principal, curriculum representatives, teachers, education personnel, and school committees. The data collecting techniques employed were observations, interviews, and documentation. Based on the research, it was found that (1) the strategic formulation done by SMK Negeri 2 Kaliandaconsisted of vision and mission, SWOT analysis, short, medium and long term planning, as well as determining strategic superiority that can be categorized as good, but the development of educational facilities (infrastructure) still needs to be optimized. 2) Strategic implementation was ineffective, especially in utilizing information systems and linking employee competencies with educational institutions performance. Those problems were causedby the mismatch between work performancesandthe roles, considering the limited allocation and operations. 3) Strategic evaluation can be categorized as reasonably good, which covered monitoring the results of strategic planning and implementation, measuring individual and school performance, and determining improvement steps.

PREFACE TO THE REVIEW BY PROFESSOR H. LAALE ON THE BIOLOGY AND USE OF THE ZEBRAFISH, BRACHYDANIO RERZO IN FISHERIES RESEARCHThe growing demand for increasingly sophisticated information on the toxic hazards of potential water pollutants has focused attention on the need for a suitable ' standard ' animal model which could be accepted internationally. The Zebrafish, Brachydanio rerio (Hamilton-Buchanan, 1822, 1823) is considered to be the most likely candidate. It is relatively easy to maintain and breed in laboratory aquaria and it has proved to be responsive to a wide range of mutagens, carcinogens and teratogens, as well as direct toxicants. B. rerio has been the subject of a considerable number of investigations involving a diverse spectrum of disciplines in a number of countries. Professor Hans Laale, who has himself contributed to our knowledge of the embryopathology of B. rerio, has summarized and collated the findings of 450 publications, a number of which are unlikely to have become available to fishery scientists. We hope the publication of this review will aid those who are working with B. rerio and provide comprehensive data on the advantages and limitations of B. rerio as a contender for the standard laboratory fish for the safety evaluation of aquatic pollutants.
