Zur Kenntnis der Kleinen Kiefern‐Buschhornblattwespe, Diprion (Microdiprion) pallipes (Fall.) (Hym., Diprionidae)

Abstract: Contributions to the knowledge of Diprion (Microdiprion) pallipes (Fall.) (Hym., Diprionidae). 1. Systematics, distribution and morphology Studies were made on D. pallipes var. politum injurious to young pine stands near Munich as well in laboratory as in high‐fens and pine cultures. The Tenthredinid is native within the Alps and their foreland and had migrated northward along the river Isar in last decades. Part 1 deals with problems of systematics, distribution and morphology. “…The egg stage lasts about 8 to 14 days. The egg-clusters arc simi!ar to those of N. sertifer, with an average of about 50 to 77 eggs per cluster and 2 to 4 per needle (MALLACH 1973). In contrast to D. pini, G. pallida and G. socia the eggs are laid at intervals of between 1.5-2mm into the needles and are thus not touching each other.…”

“…The second species (solitary feeder) and the third species (gregarious feeder) are quite common, and their larval period is in July-August. Both species overwinter at the cocoon-stage (Mallach, 1974;Kurir, 1975;Schwenke, 1982;Viitasaari & Varama, 1987). All species are univoltine in Finland.…”

“…Females of both Neodiprion sertifer (Geoffroy) and other diprionids have been reported to exhibit very limited dispersal activity, especially after mating (Bobb, 1972; Mallach, 1974; Kolomiets et al ., 1979; Rauf & Benjamin, 1980; Wagner et al ., 1986). However, more recent experiments have revealed that significant dispersal among N. sertifer females is not uncommon, although the distances travelled remain to be determined (Östrand et al ., 1999).…”
