Abstract: Interpretation of postmortem serum digoxin levels is made difficult above all by a possible prefinal or postmortem rise in digoxin concentrations in the blood. To compensate for this postmortem increase, Eriksson et al. (1984) divided the level of postmortem digoxin in femoral venous blood by a factor of 1.5; in the opinion of these authors, postmortem digoxin levels still exceeding "therapeutic levels" after division by 1.5 are an index of digoxin overdose.
