Thermogravimetric (t.g.a.) and differential thermal analyses (d.t.a.) of e-Zn(OH),, Znb(OH)8Clz. HzO, p-ZnOHC1, and ZnOHF are reported and discussed. The results show that the replacement of a hydroxyl group by a halogen group contributes to greater thermal stability of the hydroxy compound. The thermal stability increases in the order e-Zn(0H)z < Znb(OH)sC12 < p-ZnOHC1 < ZnOHF.The hydroxy compounds decompose via dehydration in the initial step followed by hydrolysis of the zinc halide and (or) volatilization of the zinc halide yielding a n ultimate residue of zinc oxide and trace quantities of the zinc halide.

Die Oxydation von Fe(OH)2 in stark und schwach alkalischen Lösungen bei Gegenwart von Cl− und SO42−‐Ionen mit O2‐ und O2/N2‐Mischungen wurde röntgenographisch und elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht. Bei sehr rascher Oxydation bildet sich topochemisch δFeOOH (früher als δFe2O3 bezeichnet). In 1‐n NaOH auf 70°C erwärmt, wandelt sich δFeOOH über die Lösung in 10‐n NaOH topochemisch in αFeOOH um. In alkalischer Lösung langsamer oxydiert, geht Fe(OH)2 über die Lösung in αFeOOH über. In gepufferter Cl‐haltiger Lösung entsteht λFeOOH in SO42‐haltiger Lösung, zuerst λ‐ später α‐FeOOH. Bei sehr langsamer Oxydation bildet sich Magnetit, bei pH ∼ 13 über die Lösung, bei PH ∼ 8,5 topochemisch aus dem zuerst entstandenen FeIIFeIII‐Hydroxysalz. Die Weiteroxydation des Magnetits erfolgt topochemisch, die Geschwindigkeit ist stark von der Kristallgröße abhängig. Die verschiedenen Reaktionsmechanismen werden unter Berücksichtigung der Löslichkeiten und der Struktur der festen Verbindungen diskutiert.
