Abstract

Zoosporic fungi growing on the specimens of certain fish species recently introduced to Polish waters. Acta Ichthyol. Piscat. 32(2): 117-125. Mycoflora developing on some fish species, recently introduced to Polish waters, has not been known. The authors incubated muscles of four fish species (monkey goby, Neogobius fluviatilis; racer goby, N. gymnotrachelus; Chinese sleeper, Perccottus glenii; and stone moroko, Pseudorasbora parva caught in the drainage area of the Bug River) in water taken from 6 different places. A total of 59 fungus species were found to grow on fish muscles studied:

“…P. glenii threat the native ichthyofauna by competition, displacement, and direct predation (Bogutskaya and Naseka 2002, Koščo et al 2003, Witkowski 2003, Reshetnikov 2003, 2004, Kostrzewa et al 2004, Copp et al 2005. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that this species may be a vector of certain parasites and fungi (Czeczuga et al 2002, Koščo et al 2003, Uzunova and Zlatanova 2007. Sustained monitoring of the spreading of this species is needed to prevent, if possible, new invasions (Witkowski 2003, Kostrzewa et al 2004).…”

Non-native fish in Belarusian and Polish areas of the European central invasion corridor

“…The freshwater fish fauna in Poland consisted of 57 native and 26 non-native species (Witkowski 1996, Witkowski 2002, Grabowska et al 2010, although only about 11 of the non-native species have become established in open water. Eight species have been recorded in the Polish section of the central corridor (Table 2) (Brylińska 2000, Czeczuga et al 2002, Kostrzewa et al 2004, Grabowska et al 2008. Six non-native species were found in the Polish section of the corridor during the present study -the gibel carp Carassius gibelio, Amur sleeper, white-eye bream Abramis sapa, tubenose goby, racer goby and the monkey goby (Table 1).…”
