“…The BR follows the conventional Man and Biosphere structure comprised of Core areas (areas of higher level of protection within protected areas such as Arribes del Duero, Douro International, Montesinho and Lago de Sanabria y Sierras de Segundera y Porto natural parks, as well as the Regional Natural Park Vale do Tua and the Sierra de la Culebra Site of Community Importance), Buffer zones (areas of lower level of protection inside protected areas and Natura 2000 sites) and Transition areas (the remaining areas) (Santamaría and Carril, 2018).
