Zn2+‐Responsive Bimodal Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Fluorescence Imaging Agents and Their Interaction with Human Serum Albumin

Abstract: The gadolinium(III) complexes GdL1 and GdL2 were designed as Zn 2+ -responsive bimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorescence imaging probes. Upon binding to Zn 2+ ions, GdL1 exhibits a bidentate or tridentate mode to form heterodinuclear GdL1Zn or heterotrinuclear (GdL1) 2 Zn, whereas GdL2 binds to the Zn 2+ ion only in a bidentate mode to form (GdL2) 2 Zn. The gadolinium(III) complexes derived from both H 3 L1 and H 3 L2 exhibit remarkable interactions with human serum albumin (HSA) at both site I… Show more

“…Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a powerful tool in the clinical diagnosis of disease and imaging in vivo owing to the noninvasive character and high spatial resolution in soft issue. , Because of the highly paramagnetic nature, Gd III ions are often chosen as the metal connectors to construct MOF contrast agents for MRI. Herein we attempt to investigate the MRI property of the captured Gd III centers within cavities of ZIF. Figure S17 shows representative transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of the as-synthesized 1 ⊂ sod -ZIF nanoparticles prepared by the mechanochemical method, whose sizes are distributed roughly from 70 to 200 nm.…”

“…HSA, encapsulating drugs or genes ether in its monomeric native formula or nanoparticle formula, has significantly improved the therapeutic efficacy of agents in a variety of human diseases including neutropenia, haemostasis, substance abuse, and oncology [7,12]. So far, a number of HSA-based conjugates have been approved for human use and some are under clinical trials for future applications [108,[153][154][155].…”

“…To circumvent the problem and prevent the formation of the dimeric species, GdP24 (Figure 6) was successfully designed. In this case, the sulfoquinoline is in the para position of the benzene, far away from the amide, leading to the formation of only (GdP24) 2 Zn with an affinity for Zn 2+ in the pM range [61].…”
