Zinc Oxide Nanofiber Gas Sensors Via Electrospinning

Abstract: Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanofibers with an average diameter of 150 nm were synthesized by electrospinning. The morphology and structure of the as‐prepared ZnO nanofibers have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X‐ray diffraction, respectively. The as‐prepared ZnO nanofibers exhibit excellent sensing properties against ethanol at an operating temperature of 300°C, including a rapid response (time ∼3 s) and recovery (time ∼8 s), super sensitivity, and high selectivi… Show more

“…nanorods [2,6], nanowires [2,3], nanoparticles [7], nanotetrapods [8], or nanofibers [9][10][11][12][13][14], and their influence on the humidity sensing performance. Many available techniques such as carbothermal reduction synthesis [15], chemical vapor deposition (CVD) [16], electrospinning [12], hydrothermal synthesis [17], vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) [18], conventional precipitation [19,20] have been attempted to obtain nanostructures. Among them, electrospinning provides a convenient and facile route for the fabrication of fibrous materials possessing high surface area to volume ratio, uniform diameters and variety of composition.…”

“…Zinc acetate dihydrate (Zn(CH 3 COO) 2 .2H 2 O, QRëC, 99.5%) was used as the precursor to synthesize the ZnO. The Zn(CH 3 COO) 2 .2H 2 O (15 g) was calcined at 550 °C with a rate of 2.2 °C/min and tempered for another 4 h. The resulted solid was white in colour and was ground before it was used.…”
