“…Firstly, the threshold criteria for MetS, WC, etc. might be different in different studies [21,28,29,30]. Secondly, the climate of residence to survey population usually requires a special diet such as eating more animal fat, more salt and fewer fresh vegetables, while the diet patterns are believed to be associated with different degrees of MetS prevalence, and lower salt intake can reduce MetS [31,32,33].…”

“…diabetes mellitus (DM) was defined as the use of hypoglycemic agents or a self-reported history of DM or FBG of 7.0 mmol/L or more [20]. MetS was defined as three or more of the following conditions clustered in one subject: (a) WC ≥ 85 cm for males or ≥80 cm for females; (b) TG ≥ 1.7 mmol/L or ongoing hypertriglyceridemia treatment; (c) HDL-C < 1.0 mmol/L for males or <1.3 mmol/L for females, or ongoing treatment; (d) SBP ≥ 130 mmHg and DBP ≥ 85 mm Hg, or ongoing antihypertensive drug therapy; and (e) FBG ≥ 5.6 mmol/L or ongoing anti-diabetic drug treatment [21,22]. The optimal cut-off values of obesity indices recommended by others studies [23,24,25] as well as the present studies were listed in Table 1, where subscript “0/1” denoted normal/abnormal for the index.…”

“…This multisystem syndrome was the ZPR1 polymorphism rs964184C>G is associated with increased plasma triglyceride levels, [25][26][27] increased LDL cholesterol and decreased HDL cholesterol, 28 and increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome, although the precise molecular mechanism is unknown. 29,30 ZPR1 is a highly conserved protein with 2 ZnF motifs and 2 larger modular domains ( Figure 3A). The c.587T>C mutation lies outside of both ZnF motifs in a domain that has been shown to bind to eEF-1α.…”

“…Tag SNPs were selected from the Han Chinese data in Haploview (http://hapmap.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/). Other functional or well-studied SNPs were simultaneously selected based on previous studies (Wu et al 2015;Wu et al 2016) that have documented associations between SNPs in the APOA1/C3/A4/A5-ZPR1-BUD13 gene cluster and lipid levels.…”

“…Functional SNP may influence gene and protein expression. This study assessed the association of tag and well-studied SNPs (APOA1 rs5072, APOC3 rs5128, APOA4 rs5104, APOA5 rs651821, ZPR1 rs2075294 and BUD13 rs10488698) selected from the Han Chinese data in Haploview (http://hapmap.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) and based on previous studies (Wu et al 2015;Wu et al 2016) with dyslipidemia in the overall sample and stratified by genders in a large sample from a Han Chinese population.…”
